With a coastline of 5000 km +, you never have to worry about finding beaches in Chile ;-), but even by Chilean standards, Taltal has a wealth of options to choose from.
Those are not your usual polished and tamed beach, but depending on where you head to, a much more adventurous, hard working, or family beach. In any case, it will definitely be different from anything you will have experimented in Europe or North America…
These are only a few examples..
Tierra del Morro
This is the closest beach (5 min drive) to Taltal, it is a family affair, it has a life guard on duty and a floating deck. Although this is closer to what one is used to, it is still surrounded by desert and rocky hills to the “Sea Cordillera” plunging into the Pacific
Piedra huacha (crooked stone), my favourite one
A 30 min drive south, it is also the spot of working fishermen, seafood and algae harvesting operation. The beach is quite gorgeous, and is typical of this part of the coast, where the rocks create many small pools, where the water warms up nicely. If you are a good diver, and not too sensitive to coolish water, urchins are waiting for you down there!
Rush hour…
